2 minute read | March 2016

International Women’s Day was celebrated around the world on Tuesday, March 8. As one of Nielsen’s annual calls to action through our Women in Nielsen (WIN) Employee Resource Group 그리고 Nielsen Cares, our associates marked the day with activities on March 8 and throughout the month. This year’s theme, “Pledge for Parity,” emphasized the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while at the same time calling attention to the urgent action needed to accelerate gender parity around the world.

For example, a recent Harris Poll study highlighted some of the gender gaps in attitudes and opportunities in the United States. Three-fourths of Americans (75%) believe the U.S. has come a long way toward reaching gender equality, but strong majorities believe that female leaders have to work harder than men to prove themselves (83%), women’s contributions in leadership roles often go unrecognized (78%), and being a parent has more negative implications on a woman’s career than on a man’s (75%).

On March 10, 2016, Terri McCullough, CEO of No Ceilings: The Full Participation Project, participated in a global webinar for Nielsen associates. McCullough shared data and findings from the March 2015 Full Participation Report, which analyzes global gains made for and by girls and women over the last two decades, as well as the gaps that remain. To mark the report’s one-year anniversary and this year’s International Women’s Day, the No Ceilings initiative also launched a digital campaign to share “ceiling-breaking” moments of progress that have been made toward gender equality over the past year.
