Nielsen’s commitment to diversity was recently recognized and awarded the No. 16 spot on the prestigious DiversityInc list of the 2019 Top 50 Companies for Diversity, moving up three places from No. 19 in 2018. The list recognizes the top companies for hiring, retaining and promoting women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT+ and veterans. Nielsen was also named to two additional specialty lists—for LGBT+ employees and for recruitment. Our advancement this year is the result of our company’s continued focus on diverse leadership development, our employee resource groups, and our efforts to strengthen leadership accountability at every level of the organization.
“Nielsen exists to count everyone and diversity & inclusion is core to our products, people and promise to the market. Our organization is united in pursuit of bigger, bolder outcomes, and we have a commitment to diversity of backgrounds, experiences, talents and skills. The result is better business for us and our clients,” said David Kenny, CEO and Chief Diversity Officer, Nielsen. “Our move from no. 19 on last year’s list reflects the progress we’ve made on our programmatic efforts in employee resource groups, leadership development, community outreach and councils. I’m committed to driving systemic change and integrating diversity and inclusion into every aspect of our company.”
Beyond our employee initiatives, we strive to promote diversity and inclusion in the industries we serve. In 2018, we announced that as part of our commitment to reflect important demographic and household characteristics in Nielsen’s National TV panel, we would expand reporting of Nielsen ratings to count same-gender spouses and unmarried same-gender partners and their household television viewing. And in the U.S., Nielsen’s Seri Intelijen yang Beragam utilizes the breadth of our measurement portfolio and the diversity within our workforce to produce reports that showcase the unique purchasing and media consumption habits of multicultural and diverse consumers.
