Australia’s Online Audience Pushes 20.1 Million

Sydney, Australia – 24 April 2017: The number of Australians accessing content online is nearing 20.1 million according to the latest Nielsen Digital Ratings (Monthly) data released today. Access via smartphone is a key driver of that growth – with smartphone unique audiences reaching 14 million in March 2017 – up 6% versus the same month the prior year.

CURRENT EVENT AND GLOBAL NEWS SUB-CATEGORY
Latest data released today by Nielsen revealed 13.5 million Australians went online for their news and current affairs information during March 2017 – up 2% when comparing both the same month the prior year, and the prior month. Accessing content via a desktop remains the main method for access of this content – up 4%. However, growth in unique audiences when comparing March 2017 with February 2017 is also strong for smartphone (+3%) and tablet (+13%) devices.

Tujuh dari sepuluh entitas teratas dalam sub-kategori acara terkini dan berita global mengalami peningkatan jumlah pemirsa unik pada bulan Maret 2017 dibandingkan bulan sebelumnya, menurut data Nielsen Digital Ratings (Bulanan).

News.com.au masih berada di posisi nomor satu dengan jumlah pembaca unik lebih dari 5,7 juta, meningkat 1% dibandingkan bulan sebelumnya.

ABC News mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan dalam jumlah pemirsa unik dan melonjak ke posisi kedua dengan 4,9 juta (+19%), Nine.com.au berada di posisi ketiga dengan tidak ada perubahan pada jumlah pemirsa uniknya yaitu 4,6 juta sejak bulan Februari, dan Smh.com.au berada di posisi keempat dengan jumlah pemirsa unik 4,1 juta (-4%).

Daily Mail Australia (3,2 juta, +9%) dan The Guardian (2,8 juta, +6%) mempertahankan posisi kelima dan keenam dalam peringkat pemirsa.

BBC kembali masuk ke dalam 10 besar di posisi ketujuh dengan jumlah pemirsa unik sebanyak 2,5 juta (+14%), diikuti oleh Herald Sun di posisi kedelapan (2,5 juta, +12%), The Daily Telegraph di posisi kesembilan (2,5 juta, +6%), dan Yahoo 7 News yang turun ke posisi kesepuluh (2,4 juta, -4%).
